The objective of the Pancyprian Examinations is the award of the School Leaving Certificate (Apolytirion) to graduate students of Secondary Education, as well as the admission to the Public Higher Education Institutions of Cyprus and Greece. Pancyprian Examinations are conducted in the second half of May till the first half of June.
Greek Typing and Shorthand Examinations
The aim of these examinations is the award of the “Certificate of Success” in Greek Typing or in Greek Shorthand. According to the schemes of service, success in these examinations is one of the required criteria for employment in the public sector. They are conducted three times a year, in May, June and November. The exact dates are published in the press and posted on the website of the Service. All citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, over 16 years old, are eligible to take these exams.
Examinations for Language Proficiency
The aim of these examinations is to test and verify the knowledge in Greek, English, French and German at the level required by scheme of service set by the Public Service Commission, the Educational Service Commission and other government/semi-goverment organisations. These exams are conducted twice a year or on demand in exceptional cases.
Examinations for Certification of Greek Language
Very Good knowledge of Greek Language: The aim of this examination is the provision of the “Certificate of Success in Very Good Knowledge of Greek Language” for candidates who have not graduate from a Greek Public Secondary School.
Basic knowledge of Greek Language for Immigrants: The aim of this examination is the provision of the “Certificate of Success in Basic Knowledge of Greek Language” for immigrants living in Cyprus, according to the Law Amendment for Immigrants and Aliens [N143(I)/2009].
These examinations are conducted twice a year. The exact dates are published in the press and posted on the website of the Service.
Examinations for Appointment in the Public Sector
The aim of these examinations is the award of the “Certificate of Success”, required for employment in the public sector (valid only for the year that follows the examinations). Examinations for Appointment in the Public Sector are conducted according to the Legislation of Evaluation for Appointment in the Public Sector (1998-2006) for salary scale A2-5-7 or A8-10-11. Concerning these exams, the Examinations Service is responsible for item writing, invigilation, marking and issuing the results, whilst Public Service Commission has the overall responsibility.
Examinations for employment in public and semi-public organisations, in Police Force and in municipalities
The Examinations Service conducts examinations for vacancies, in several employment scales, announced by public and semi-public organisations, the Police Force, municipalities, etc. The examinations’ subjects include Greek, English, Topics of General Knowledge and a special subject related to the duties of the position. Such examinations are conducted, upon request, throughout the year.
Entrance Examinations for Fine Arts Schools in Greece
The admission of students in Fine Arts Schools in Greece is based on a practical procedure, where students should accomplish drawings using different materials. This exam, which lasts for a week, is conducted in September, before the beginning of each academic year.
