Biographical Information of Dr Leonidas Kyriakides

Dr Leonidas Kyriakides is Assistant Professor in Educational Research and Evaluation at the University of Cyprus. He has taught at the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus (1994-1998) and at the University of Warwick, U.K. (1998-1999). His main research interests are the development of generic and differentiated models of educational effectiveness, the evaluation of student progress and teacher effectiveness, the application of effectiveness research to the improvement of educational practice, and the methodology of validation studies. He is member of the editorial board and book editor of the School Effectiveness and School Improvement journal and author of more than 60 research papers in international journals with referee system, 7 books and 15 chapters in books. His most recent book (with Campbell, Muijs and Robinson) is Assessing Teacher Effectiveness: developing a differentiated model, RoutledgeFalmer, 2004. He is now conducting a four-year longitudinal study on establishing a dynamic model of educational effectiveness whereas three of his recent projects are:

    • The Development and Validation of an International System for Teacher Observation and Feedback (ISTOF)                   
    • The Development of national systems for conducting school and teacher evaluation in Cyprus                               
    • Meta-evaluation of the project “Heads you Win” focused on primary headteachers professional development
